A New Round of Attacks from Japanese Electric Enterprises to Chinese Flat Panel TV Market

A report from Japanese media, incumbent Japanese electric enterprises such as Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, Hitachi have targeted at Chinese flat panel TV market and planned another round of attack to compete with Chinese electric enterprises. According to the research done by Chinese Market Investigation Company, the sales volume of Chinese flat panel TV was 3.36m sets from Jan. to Sep. 2006, among them 2.8m sets were LCD TV, which tripled the number during the same period of last year and 565,000 sets were PLASMA, up 28%. American IDC Company estimated that the sales volume of Chinese flat panel TV in 2007 would reach 10m sets and 20m sets in 2010. Since the competition in the market is fierce and the price of flat panel TV has continuously slid down, Japanese enterprises have shifted their sales focus on TV, which are above 40 inches with cost edge. Panasonic and Hitachi thought highly of PLASMA TV market in particular because TV of this series could meet the requirements of big size and high resolution.
