Recently, the Ethiopian MCE and Sinoma International Engineering Co., Ltd. officially signed the contract on expansion of the third phase with input of USD130m. On the signing ceremony held at Sheraton Hotel in Addis Ababa, Mr. Tefera Abebe, general manager of MCE, said that even though the company had been constantly striving to meet cement requirement in Ethiopian market, the growth of construction industry had forced them to expand the cement factory as soon as possible. The expansion of the third production line would help them to ease the current shortage of cement. Mr. Tefera Abebe revealed that the production capacity of this project was 900,000 tons/year of clinker and 1.4m tons/year of cement. The equipment of clinker has been installed in Mugger and the cement factory will be set up in Tateke 10 km to the west of Addis covering 20 ha. According to the contract clauses, the expansion project would start in mid December and end up 21 months later.
