Recently journalists learnt from the world's second largest retailer Carrefour that Luo Guowei, CEO of Carrefour China will take over from former president Shi Rongle to become Carrefour China's president & CEO. Shi Rongle will officially leave office today to take a back seat.Newly onboard, Luo Guowei did not announce any dramatic "new policies".Instead, he expressed his intention to focus on three aspects: firstly, becoming more "modern",enhancing food safety and increasing investment in central and western China; secondly, boosting "localization" and striving to be "more Chinese than Chinese";and thirdly, emphasizing social responsibility of the enterprise and donating 1 million euros to the education of poor areas in China within the following three years. He noted that Carrefour will carry on its strategy of "sustainable development", focus its development on cities like Beijing and Shanghai, and meanwhile speed up its development in the 2nd and 3rd tier cities to open more outlets in northeast and northwest China.
